In this blog, we run through the training routes available if you want to become better acquainted with the Xero accounting software, as well as some tips to start using the software.
What is Xero?
Xero is an online accounting software that connects your business to your bank, accountant and bookkeeper. It keeps all of your financial information and accounting needs in one place and simplifies tasks such as paying bills, creating VAT returns and generating invoices.
Xero training routes available
Whether you are new to Xero or require more advanced Xero training to get to know all the great features it offers, Steele Financial can design a Xero training package tailored to you and your business needs.
If you are already using a more outdated or complex accounting software and like the idea of using Xero, we also offer guidance to migrate your accounts to Xero and we can also tell you more about the advantages of making this change.
As part of the Xero training package, Steele Financial will provide training for your employees as well as yourself. First, we will organize a meeting to discover your goals – what you want to achieve by the end of the sessions and how skilled you want your team to be in everything Xero.
We then create a perfect Xero training package for your company. This can all be delivered remotely, or in-person, whatever suits you best. If you decide you want ongoing support after the initial session is given, this can also be arranged.
We will also guide you through the process of setting up Xero and we’ll then review all the available Xero apps, suggesting the ones that would be more beneficial for your business.
How to get started with Xero
During our Xero training session, we will see that there are a few simple steps you can take to get started with Xero. If you would like to take a look for yourself before our session, you can start with the following:
Watch Xero’s guide videos
When you first log in to your account, you will see videos created by Xero appear on your dashboard. These will guide you through the setup process too, so are important to watch.
Download the app
For convenience, Xero has an app that can be downloaded. This is particularly useful for keeping track of your finances when you leave the office, or for submitting expense claims on the go.
Setting up Xero with your accountant
Setting up Xero with the help of an accountant is essential to ensure that all the details are correct. Your accountant can help with the set-up of your account so make sure you add them early on in the process, under the appropriate user role for their job.
The first thing your accountant will help you do is add your company’s details to Xero. This includes any registration number you may have and the registered address of your business. You will also add your company branding here so that it is consistent across the app and appears on invoices.
Once your details have been added, your accountant will guide you through the process of entering your company’s and client’s financial details. This ensures that you will never miss any payments and can immediately start to manage your finances and generate invoices.
Keeping Xero Updated
You must make sure you regularly update Xero with any company changes, such as a change of address or client details. If your accounts become outdated this can have a negative effect on your business and others that rely on it, so you will need to inform us of any changes.
